Smart Agriculture Research Center
TÜBİTAK BİLGEM Robotics and Autonomous Systems Laboratory Unit operates within the Food Supply Security and Digitalization Joint Application and Research Center (GADOM), which is planned to be established under the auspices of the Presidency of the Republic of Turkey Presidency of Strategy and Budget. In this center, it is planned to host smart greenhouse application environments by conducting studies in cooperation with TÜBİTAK BİLGEM and other research centers and academia.
Robotics and Autonomous Systems Laboratory aims to transfer its experience on robotic arms, which perform tasks such as pruning disease-carrying branches of plants, to the field of food safety. With the development of reverse kinematic algorithms, the pruning shears integrated at the tip of the robotic arms will autonomously detect harmful areas and prevent the spread of disease.
For this purpose, the 5-axis robot manipulator, which was drawn and 3D printed by the Robotics and Autonomous Systems Laboratory Unit for testing and pre-integration studies, was completely made of PLA material. The robot manipulator, which is durable as well as lightweight, has customizable features and is designed to be compatible with multiple different end effectors. This design has the potential to perform many tasks. Since the robot arm is planned to be used in autonomous tasks with inverse kinematics algorithms, the ROS (Robot Operating System) package is also being developed.
